On Saturday 16th November, in Fairplace Church Okehampton at 7.30pm, the charity is teaming up with the Bondleigh Barn Band – a well-known local music group, conducted by Richard Edwards – to provide an evening’s entertainment, with refreshments, to help raise funds for the Trust. This promises to be an entertaining evening, with music from classical to contemporary and the performance will be filmed as part of a video to show how the band began and has developed into the outfit it is today.
The Bondleigh Barn Band – an amateur group – was formed in January 2013, when six local musicians gathered in a barn in Bondleigh, thanks to a local farmer. They met following an advertisement in a magazine by three violinists who wanted to play with other instrumentalists, in an effort to broaden their repertoire. They were also hoping to find a musical director to ’bully them into shape’.
Since its unusual beginnings, the amateur band has grown to over forty players of string, woodwind, brass and keyboard instruments who enjoy meeting to play for their own enjoyment but are happy to share it with an audience and thus have raised several thousands of pounds for local charities and good causes.
Their repertoire spans four centuries and the audience will hear music they know, some they may not know and some in which they will be invited to join. An exciting and enjoyable evening, with interval pasties, cake, a raffle and an opportunity to support this very worthwhile, very local charity.
